I cannot believe I listened to the great reviews on this book. Ha, more like novella or short story. Yes, I know it was like 113 pages but it was so poorly written, I skipped more than a few pages.- Little to no romance. Major strike.
+ Very unique storyline. I had to admit, it was pretty well thought out, just not executed.
- The main character seemed to accept some things while doubting more obvious stuff.
- It felt like the Rex Deus had everything at their fingertips and still had nothing to show for it.
- For a hunted group, every member there seemed to sit on their butts and enjoy the rich life instead of training.
- There was action............at the end of the book and it was over maybe two sentences later?
Overall, it made me think of a starter book? One that gives you a background for the series. At least I hope it was because this books sucked. Honest to Jesus.
But on the other hand, I hope this isn't an intro because I will not be continuing this series.

"Shadow" is a real page turner and a must read for anyone who loves a good suspenseful thriller. It's rich characters and clever plot development keep the reader intrigued throughout the whole book. The lead character, Angelina, is extremely relatable as she portrays one who has remained strong and positive after a tragic past. Her strength helps her stay true to herself as she tries to unravel the chaos that surrounds her. Ingenious and creative, "Shadow" also gives a life lesson or two to be given thought by all.
From the first page I was absolutely enthralled! Very well written. I highly recommend this book and can't wait till the next book comes out!
I was hooked from the first chapter! This is an exciting tale with a strong, young female character; perfect for young readers eager for an adventure. The story is very well laid out with interesting hitches along the way. "Shadow" is a great start to what is sure to be an excellent series! Looking forward to the next book!!
The first book in the series, Shadow introduces us to the heroine, Angelina, and her suddenly complicated life as she finds out she is a member of the Rex Deus dynasty. A page-turner from the start, the reader feels Angelina's dilemma of wanting to understand her past and fulfill her destiny, while being guided by her strong independent nature and instincts. As the twists and turns unfold, the story becomes a fast-paced thriller. It's good to be aware that this is a series; the author does not wrap up the story on this go-around, but leaves the reader wondering what dangers Angelina will encounter next and where her adventure (and likely romance) will lead. Agree that the book is a great fit for readers in their teens and adults who like a quick and easy read. Check it out!
Orphaned when her adoptive parents both die within months of each other, 18-year-old Angelina Hathaway is a high-school dropout who works a satisfying, if low-paying, job at a restaurant. Enter Guillermo, a mysterious young man who contacts her with information about her birth parents unbeknownst to her, her parents were high-ranking members of the Rex Deus Dynasty, an organization dedicated to protecting the lineage of Christ--of which Angelina is the last direct descendant. After she's almost killed in her apartment by a mysterious assailant, the Rex Deus Dynasty whisks her away to a remote compound in Mendocino, California, where they provide her with a lavish lifestyle and opportunities to complete her education. She is allowed to come and go as she pleases; the only non-negotiable factor in the deal is that she must marry another of the blood and produce as many children as possible. Certainly not the worst fate imaginable, especially since her proposed future husband, Guillermo, is fairly attractive--but to a modern girl like Angelina, the proposition is more than a little creepy. Then, when one of the organization is mysteriously murdered by the same assailant who attacked her before, Angelina realizes that not even her new "friends" can ensure her safety.
Shadow is an interesting variation on a somewhat original premise (Jesus was married to Mary Magdalene!), but at only 113 pages, I finished the story with the impression that both plot and characters were left underdeveloped. So, while I recommend it as an interesting start to a series, I feel that it could still use a little more work. Recommended for Ages 14-Up.
This mystery, introducing a delightful new voice in a series, should appeal to young people who are looking for an interesting, exciting read. The main character, Angelina, a strong, teen-aged female with many interests, is likeable. Bravely she has faced several daunting challenges in her past and yet stays strong as she attempts to understand what is happening to her in the present. I felt that the author wrote the conversations between various characters extremely well, influencing me on each character's likeability. For me, novels must have wonderful characters and this author was able to deliver.
